Podcasts About Books

Podcasts

I already listen to podcasts, but so many of them are crap! I want recommendations! There are only 3 that I regularly listen to... Savage Love, Dr Karl, & Radio National's All In The Mind.

Upon the advice of 23 Things, I'm going to try:

PS I think podcasts could be a good way to teach library customers how to do certain things, thus freeing up more time for staff to get involved in more events and other activities. For example, podcasts could be used as an additional tool in teaching customers how to use computers/digital photography et cetera, which would enable more customers to attend each event and still learn something.

Happy Slamiversary!

Well, why shouldn't librarians slam the boards? I visit Answers forums regularly ... I prefer the ones frequented by thoughtful people as opposed to the TERRIBLE Yahoo Answers. Such crap advice is given there. !!!

So I fully endorse librarians slamming the boards. Not only does it provide comphrehensive answers (often at boards that sorely need it), it also teaches people how to do their own searching for answers. Referencing is a SKILL! Hardly anyone I know even knows how to Google! I suspect this will change some day soon.

Homer: Aah! Hey, get off my sugar. Bad bees! Bad! Ow! Oww!! Oh, they're defending themselves somehow.

Meow meow meow meow meow

Homer: Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals ... except the weasel.

Homer: How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

Mr. Burns: I'll keep it short and sweet -- Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business.

Moe: Call this an unfair generalization if you must, but old people are no good at everything.

Ralph: When i grow up, I want to be a principal or a caterpillar.

Homer: Well crying isn't going to help. Now, you can sit there feeling sorry for yourself or you can eat can after can of dog food until your tears smell enough like dog food until your dog comes back, or you can go out there and find your dog.
Bart: You're right. [Gets up and leaves]
Homer: Rats. I almost had him eating dog food.

Chief Wiggum: Can't you people take the law into your own hands? I mean, we can't be policing the entire city!

Seeeee my vest!

del.icio.us

Here is my new del.icio.us account.

Del.icio.us would be a good way to help customers in libraries because you could set up FAQs by using tags -- it would be much more intuitive than traditional FAQs.

Youtube

I love Youtube and Google vids. I watch U.S. TV shows on them all the time because it uses less of my bandwidth than downloading avi files.

I tried searching for Mosman Library, as suggested. The first two results for Youtube were
a Japanese game show set in a library and
a pervert caught on his pc at the library!

I'm guessing the Mosman Library stuff is at Google Vids? Haha.

Wikis are cool. I keep seeing this book, Wikinomics, everywhere.

I've been using Wikipedia for ages. Even Dr Karl says it rules!

I can't think of any applications for wikis within the library at the moment. I will ponder on this idea later.

PS I am now halfway through the 23 Things course. To celebrate this milestone I am embedding my favourite Youtube vid ever:

Yay RSS

RSS feeds are interesting. I've never really used them but I am glad 23 Things forced me to because now I can keep updated on sites that I love, but always forget to visit.

(Why is it that whenever I have a few spare minutes to catch up on my favourite corners on the internet, my mind draws a blank...?)

This way, it's all in one place and I'll never forget a website - plus, it's all the latest stuff and easy to skim!

Avion de los Simpsons!

I want to fly in this plane.

Montgomery Burns!

Mr. Burns: I don't like being outdoors Smithers, for one thing, there's too many fat children.

Mr. Burns: What good is money if it can't inspire terror in your fellow man?
